Carolyn creates large and small scale abstract artworks in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, textile art, and collage. Her sensitive, intuitive mark making reflects her deep affinity for line, space, concentricity, and organic form. Inspired by the natural world, Carolyn often draws from patterns in the landscape - particularly contour lines and aerial imagery - imbuing her work with a sense of fluidity and connection to the earth.
In recent years, Carolyn’s practice has evolved to explore the tension between control and chance. She pairs precise, deliberate marks with elements of unpredictability, such as blind drawings, crackle glazes, and layering of paint which is then sanded back. These techniques introduce an element of relinquishing control, allowing the work to unfold in unexpected ways and adding depth to her creative process.
Carolyn has nurtured a passion for art and design since a young age. After completing her A-levels and an Art Foundation course at Yeovil College, she studied Fine Art Sculpture at Winchester School of Art. Her early work was often textile based, investigating themes of natural shape and form, repetition, and obsessive behaviour.
Carolyn mainly works from her studio at the bottom of her garden. She currently lives in Taunton, Somerset with her partner and their two sons.
