This piece is inspired by the contour lines of the Blackdown Hills on the Somerset-Devon border. The fine, flowing lines mimic the undulating topography of the landscape, creating a sense of movement and depth.
The paint has been slightly sanded in places to reveal the texture of the canvas beneath, introducing a tactile quality - almost like eroded rock formations or the way land changes over time due to natural forces. This technique enhances the raw, earthy feel of the piece, grounding it in a physical sense of place while maintaining an ethereal, abstract quality. There’s a poetic stillness to it, yet also a rhythmic, almost musical quality in the way the lines flow and connect.
The artwork measures 62 x 45cm and was completed in 2024.
