Hepburn

This striking piece carries a layered history, both visually and materially.   Painted over an old, found painting, the ghostly remnants of its past subtly emerge through the surface, adding depth and intrigue. The interplay between the underlying texture and the bold, graphic forms creates a sense of tension - between past and present, chaos and control.

The composition is defined by fluid, organic shapes contrasted with sharp black cutouts, forming a dynamic push and pull of positive and negative space.   The restrained palette of black and off-white enhances the sculptural quality of the painting, allowing light and shadow to accentuate the tactile surface.

Hints of the previous artwork peek through like echoes, giving the piece a sense of time-worn beauty.   This act of repurposing not only transforms the original painting but also embraces imperfection, inviting the viewer to consider the layers of art, memory, and reinvention.

The artwork measures 100 x 100cm and was completed in 2022.
