Terraces

Terraces is a visual ode to the breathtaking rice paddy fields of Mu Cang Chai, Vietnam.  Inspired by aerial views, the painting recreates the sinuous lines and rhythmic flow of the narrow fields as they follow the contours of the land.  The painting emphasizes the mirrored effect of the flooded terraces in the rainy season, employing a palette of muted watery hues and touches of metallic gold to convey the shimmering light.  Each section is outlined in black pen which is then smudged into the canvas, adding a unique graphic dimension to the composition.

The artwork measures 61 x 91 cm and was completed in 2023.
